So, the weekend has finally come and I just don’t know what to do with myself. I
don’t know about you, but I have watched all the same old movies time and again, so,I have determined to get together with some friends and play a game. Now, it has been a long time since I played a game of any kind. To be honest, I tend to find them a bit boring. Monopoly? Really? I’d rather have my back teeth pulled than waste another 8 hours on that monstrosity. I thought my intentions for this weekend were in vain… until I thought of poker.
I was watching an action film not too long ago featuring a British secret agent
(hint, hint), and in this movie he plays a rather intense round of poker. Now,
I use the term “poker” loosely, since there are a great many variations of this
game. And, to be honest, I don’t remember which type he played. But no matter.
It looked fun on the movie, and I’ll bet you 10 to 1 I’ll have fun as well. The only
problem is that I realized that I didn’t have any of the equipment.
Apparently to play any type of poker correctly one will need cards, of course,
poker chips, and, if at all possible a table. It was this last item that caught me by surprise.
I mean, I could have guessed the other two, but a custom table? I was skeptical.
However, after a brief perusal of the internet, I determined that this is truly an
essential item for the poker player. While a “normal” table will do if nothing else
is available, a table specifically designed to accommodate players, cards, chips
(both edible and inedible) and drinks easily transforms any standard game from
fun to awesome.
The only problem is, I don’t have space for a poker table. I don’t know about
you, but I certainly don’t have a game room. Fortunately for me, I discovered
that you don’t need the space for a stationary table. Unbeknownst to me,
some genius has invented a portable, folding poker top that is easily transported,
stored and used. Just pop it open and you too can play like a British agent.
In any case, with all my new gear and a table top to boot, I’d say my weekend just got a whole lot better. Now, if only I could find some friends…
